IMPORTANT : Do not displace wild animals
Please note that it is currently prohibited to transport (relocate, move) a live raccoon, skunk, fox, or coyote (e.g., in a cage). This measure aims to limit the risk of spreading rabies by transporting an infected animal that appears healthy. This prohibition also applies to transporting an injured or orphaned animal to a shelter. Therefore, if such an animal is captured, it must be released (it can be removed from a building if necessary). In the case of a nuisance animal, if all measures have been taken to prevent damage to property, but without success, it may be euthanized without specific authorization. Here is a fact sheet outlining a possible euthanasia method. This prohibition will be extended beyond August 6; further information will be provided shortly.
Manual distribution
Manual distrubution of vaccination capsules took place in Monteregie from April 27th to the 8th of May 2026. The operation covered close to 2500 km2 across 55 municipalities. 206 vaccine capsules were distributed.
Further targeted operations will take place in July and August in certain higher-risk areas of the enhanced surveillance zone.
The capsules were placed near wooded areas, waterways, around fields, agricultural facilities and abandoned buildings, and near garbage bins.
